We are now down to the final 16 teams in the Europa League 2016/2017. The remaining teams feature three belgique, two german, two russian, one dutch, one spanish, one cypriot, one turkish, one french, one danish, one italian, one english and one greek – teams from 12 different countries.
Every year, we see how teams who play in Europa League get hit by the added pressures of increased fixture congestion and in effect start taking drops in performances in their respective leagues as they place higher importance towards playing in europe due to the financial significance. Therefore I thought it was worth a look at seeing how europe has effected the remaining teams in the Europa League.
Out of all of the teams left in the Europa League, Apoel Nicosia, FC Copenhagen and Olympiacos are doing the best in their domestic leagues. Where as, Borussia Monchengladbach are doing the worst. Then again, it’s worth taking into consideration the toughness of the leagues they compete in.
